Lumbini Province Police Launches “Hack4Safety” — Nepal’s First Government-Led Public Safety Hackathon

In a landmark initiative aimed at fostering innovation for public safety and policing, Lumbini Province Police has officially announced Hack4Safety, Nepal’s first government-led technology hackathon dedicated to developing digital solutions for security, safety, and law enforcement challenges.

The two-day innovation event will be held on Jestha 30–31, 2083 (June 13–14, 2026) at the Lumbini Province Police Training Centre in Butwal. The hackathon invites participation from developers, software engineers, interns, hardware engineers, startups, students, innovators, and technology enthusiasts from across Nepal.

According to the organizing team, Hack4Safety aims to bridge the gap between technology and public service by encouraging young innovators to design practical, scalable, and impactful solutions that can strengthen policing and community safety systems.

The event follows a competitive selection process where teams will first submit project proposals for screening. The top 20 selected teams will then participate in an intensive 36-hour hackathon sprint, where they will build and present their solutions before a panel of experts and officials.

Participants will compete for a prize pool that includes:

  • NPR 1,00,000 Cash Prize
  • Official Nepal Police Recognition Certificates
  • Opportunity for Real-World Deployment of Winning Solutions

The hackathon is completely free to enter, with teams consisting of 3–4 members. Organizers have also announced that selected participants will receive meals and on-site accommodation during the event. While participants are expected to manage their own travel expenses, the organizing team will provide transportation coordination and event support assistance when needed.

In addition to innovation and competition, organizers emphasized their commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants, including women participants traveling from different parts of the country.

The registration deadline for Hack4Safety is Jestha 20, 2083 (June 3, 2026).
