KATHMANDU — With minimal preparation, no formal training, and without any luxury support, Kipa Lamu Sherpa set out on her journey carrying only an unbreakable dream. Starting from Kathmandu, she reached the summit within just four days, proving that determination can overcome even the highest challenges.

A mother of three, homemaker, and hotel entrepreneur, Kipa Lamu Sherpa has redefined her identity by daring to touch the roof of the world. Her courage and perseverance have made her one of Nepal’s most inspiring women mountaineers.

Born in Ward No. 2 of Makalu Rural Municipality, Sankhuwasabha, Kipa Lama achieved a remarkable milestone at the age of 28. Despite being a young mother of three, she successfully summited Mount Makalu, setting a historic record as Nepal’s youngest female climber to conquer the peak.

Her achievements extend beyond Makalu. In a short span of time, she successfully climbed Mount Manaslu, completing the ascent in just three days as part of a 14-member all-women team. She has also conquered mountains above 6,000 meters, while simultaneously completing professional training in rock climbing and mountaineering.

Driven by a vision to establish new records, create new history, and strengthen Nepal’s identity on the global mountaineering map, Kipa Lama continues to push boundaries. Carrying the dreams of her young children in her heart, her determination to reach new summits has become a defining part of her life.

Most recently, she completed advanced training in mountaineering, rock climbing, and ice climbing through the Khumbu Climbing Center. The training program was conducted in Phortse, Solukhumbu, from January 15 to January 28, 2025, further strengthening her skills for future expeditions.

Kipa Lamu Sherpa’s journey stands as a powerful example of courage, resilience, and the rising role of Nepali women in high-altitude mountaineering.
