Joshi got his name written in the Guinness Book by running in a Daura Suruwal.

Nepalese-born American runner Bal Joshi has had his name recorded in the Guinness Book by completing the “World Marathon Challenge” wearing a Daura Suruwal.

Joshi set a world record and entered the Guinness Book by running in a Daura Suruwal in seven marathons held across seven continents over seven consecutive days.

At the closing ceremony of the “World Marathon Challenge” held Friday in Miami, USA, Guinness World Records representative Michael Empric presented Joshi with the certificate.

The marathon began in Antarctica and continued through Cape Town, Africa; Perth, Australia; Dubai, Asia; Madrid, Spain; Brazil; and concluded on the seventh day in Miami, USA.

Considered extremely challenging, the “World Marathon Challenge” has been held since 2015. Because seven marathons are conducted across seven continents in seven consecutive days, the competition is also known as the “777 Marathon.” A total of 56 runners from 32 countries, including Joshi, participated in the marathon.

Joshi said he participated in the marathon wearing a Daura Suruwal to promote Nepalese heritage and culture globally and to honor his birthplace and its legacy. He wore a different Daura Suruwal in each of the seven marathons. All the outfits were prepared by Bishwo Gautam of Kathmandu.

The 41-year-old Joshi, born in Surkhet, has been living in the United States for two decades. He resides in Grapevine City in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, Texas, and works professionally as a banker.
